Beethoven's String Quartets
Published in Paperback by Cambridge Univ Pr (Trd) (September, 1978)
Author: Phillip Radcliffe
Average review score:

Authoritative analysis
This volume is worth tracking down. In compact, concise essays, Radcliffe describes each quartet in musical detail, relating the pieces to other quartets by Beethoven as well as works in other genres, thus demonstrating how the work fits into his development as a composer. Frequent quotes from and comparisons with early sketches reveal the process by which each work achieved its final form. Musical examples are copious and always well chosen. In short, this is a model musical guidebook. It would be gratifying if some enterprising reprint house were to pick it up.

The Before Columbus Foundation Poetry Anthology: Selections from the American Book Awards 1980-1990

A Wonderful View of Alternate Voices in American Poetry
This book is quite simply one of the best ways to see a complete picture of what America is by way of poetry. Even though the selected poetry is obviously limited to the Before Columbus Foundation Book Awards, the selections are wonderful. This fact only validitates the necessity and power of the book series and the extremely woderful editing of the anthology. What's more, the editors take turns in introducing the poets and their poetry.

As someone who grew up in rural Utah, I did not readily take the opportunity to read a varied set of voices. When I bought this book while I was in the Army, I felt that I truly began my education in reading multi-cultural voices in poetry. I had heard names like Allen Ginsberg and Amiri Baraka (both included in this anthology) but suddenly I was reading Larry Neal, Ai, Etheridge Knight, Tato Laviera, and Jayne Cortez.

My favorite selections from this book are from the poets Larry Neal, Etheridge Knight, Amiri Baraka, and Frank Stanford. Each poem from these selections (and really the whole book) is powerful and essential to the education of Americans. My copy of this book is dog eared and worn because even after eight years I still read from it at least once a week. If you can get a copy of this book, do it.

Bible Explorer's Guide

Author: John Phillips
Average review score:

A Must Have
This book is a must have if you want to interpret the Bible correctly. John Phillips is a genius of the Bible. This book is separated into two parts. The first part is Hermeneutics and the other is called Helps. Bro. Phillips writes about how to interpret the Parables, Prophecy, and Types. He also writes about the Symbols and Numbers used in the Bible. What can I say; it is a must have for every believer is the Lord Jesus.

I recommend this book highly.

Authors: Phillip F. Neuweiler and Douglas G. Lapasta
Average review score:

Written just as Phil spoke
Phil Neuweiler was my Dad. He loved hunting and Alaska hunts were his favorite. Doug LaPasta did an excellent job of putting together the notes my dad kept while ill and the book reads as my father spoke. It is a wonderful tribute to the favorite stories and advice that depict the hunts and events my dad experienced during his many years as a big game hunter.
